About Us

From our Head Office in Luton, Special Wear has been offering its ‘Clever Clothing Solutions’ since August 2000. Whether it be smart tailored clothing or industrial workwear and PPE, our job is to remove the burden of uniform supply, allowing you to concentrate on your core business. We aim to integrate our service into your operations so that you feel like you are dealing with your own clothing department, within your own organisation.

Our Team

If you’re tired of the call centre experience and would prefer to deal with a real person who knows you and understands your organisation, you’ve come to the right place. Technology is great and we use it every day but people make a business and here are a few of ours…

Managing Director

Carl Gough

“I began my career in the Dyehouse Laboratory of Carrington Textiles aged 21. I held a number of ‘factory floor’ positions before moving upstairs into a QC role some years later. This gave me a taste of working at the front end of the operation and I enjoyed the customer contact so when a Technical Sales role was offered, I grabbed it with both hands.

I left Carrington to join Special Wear in 2003 when the company was only 3 years old. Sure it was a bit of a gamble, but I saw lots of potential and was impressed by their ambitions and their early achievements. Working for a smaller company has given me the opportunity to be hands-on and shape every part of the business as we’ve grown. It’s also allowed me to take a project from beginning to end starting with market research through to designing products, developing supply chains, winning sales, delivering the goods and implementing ongoing fulfilment solutions”.

Customer Services Manager

Kelly Wood

“I joined the Special Wear Customer Service Team in 2009 and became Customer Services Manager 3 years later. Having direct contact with our customers and leading a team who are as passionate as me about building and maintaining strong relationships, is definitely where I’m happiest.

It goes without saying that anyone working in Customer Services should be conscientious, friendly and care about the work they do. It’s sort of a prerequisite. But the customer service experience at Special Wear runs much deeper than that because my team and I are working with you and for you, every day, year after year. During the course of time, we’ll get to know you and your people, we’ll start to see trends, preferences, and patterns emerging which we’ll use proactively to prompt or protect you. You’ll then start to notice how smoothly things are running and how little of your time is spent dealing with uniform! “

Tony Brand
Warehouse supervisor

The Warehouse Department is a dynamic, meticulous and professional operation today. The nature of our work often involves responding to unexpected or unplanned demands so being flexible and adaptable, not only as a manager but also as a team, gives us the best possible chance of meeting our daily goals and making our customers happy. It’s a great feeling when the shutters go down at the end of the day after we’ve delivered the seemingly impossible … gives me a huge amount of satisfaction”.

Machinist

Maria Attard

“I have been a machinist all my working life and have worked for brands such as Eastex, Gossard and Praxis Active Wear before joining the Special Wear team back in 2005. I work in a small multiskilled team which is able to turn its hand to pretty much anything. We make samples, cut patterns, carry out alterations and apply company logos. I particularly enjoy being part of the design team during the development of new items especially if there’s an element of problem solving in the work”
